봄꽃 이야기 (6)-변산바람꽃과 풍도바람꽃. Flora of Korea-Eranthis byunsanensis, Eranthis pungdoensis

 

이른 봄 눈 속에 피어나 봄의 전령사로 잘 알려진 변산바람꽃, 너도바람꽃, 만주바람꽃 등은 복수초, 노루귀, 얼레지 등과 함께 야생화 매니아들의 봄을 열어주는 꽃의 하나이다.

 

변산바람꽃 (Eranthis byunsanensis, Byeonsan winter aconite)
전북 변산에서 처음 발견되어 변산바람꽃이란 이름이 붙었다. 서울 근교에서는 수리산, 전국 여러 곳에서 이른 봄에 만날 수 있다. 낙엽수림의 가장자리에서 자라며, 높이 10-30㎝. 꽃받침은 흰색이고 5장이며 달걀모양이고 꽃잎도 5장이고 퇴화되어 2개로 갈라진 노란 꿀샘이 있다. 꽃밥은 연한 자색이다. 경기 안산 풍도의 것을 풍도바람꽃 (Eranthis pungdoensis)이라 부르기도 하지만 일반적인 지지를 얻지는 못하고 있는 것으로 보인다.

경기 안산 풍도에 풍도에 자생하는 유사종을 '풍도바람꽃'으로 부르기도 하나, 변산바람꽃의 지역적 변이로 보기도 함.

안산시 대부도에서 남서쪽으로 24㎞ 떨어져 있는 둘레 5.4㎞인 작은 섬으로 이른 봄부터 4월 말까지 섬 전체가 야생화 군락지라고 할 정도로 야생화가 많은 풍도는 야생화의 자생지가 넓고 개체수가 많기도 하지만 '풍도바람꽃’과 ‘풍도대극’은 여기서만 볼 수 있고, 개복수초, 노루귀, 꿩의바람꽃 등도 지천으로 피어 야생화천국으로 명성을 얻고 있다.

Eranthis is a genus of eight species of flowering plants in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, native to southern Europe and east across Asia to Japan. The common name winter aconite comes from the early flowering time and the resemblance of the leaves to those of the related genus Aconitum, the true aconite. Like the notoriously toxic Aconitum (and, indeed, many other genera of the Ranunculaceae) Eranthis is poisonous, although its chemistry is different, the toxic compounds present being mainly cardiac glycosides of the bufadienolide group similar to those found in Adonis vernalis, rather than the extraordinarily virulent alkaloids of Aconitum.
