봄꽃나무 (4)-갯버들과 이웃들. Flora of Korea-Salix (Willows)

 

갯버들이 속한 버드나무속의 식물은 '국가표준식물목록'에 자생종만 45종이 올라 있을 정도로 집안이 복잡하다. 그 중에 주위에서 비교적 쉽게 만날 수 있는 것이 갯버들, 키버들, 버드나무, 수양버들 등이다. 암수딴그루로 꽃은 이른 봄에 피고 수꽃이 암꽃보다 화려하다. 버드나무속의 학명 'Salix'는 켈트어로 '물 가까이'란 뜻이라고 한다

* 키버들은 우리나라에서만 자생하는 한반도 고유종으로 오랫동안 우리 민족의 생활 속 자원식물로 유용하게 쓰인 나무로 가지나 줄기로 각종 전통 공예품을 만들었다. 곡식을 까부르는 데 필요한 키나 생활용품으로 이용되는 광주리가 대표적이다.

 

Willows, also called sallows and osiers, form the genus Salix, are around 400 species of deciduous trees and shrubs, found primarily on moist soils in cold and temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Most species are known as willow, but some narrow-leaved shrub species are called osier, and some broader-leaved species are referred to as sallow. The generic name Salix is ultimately derived from a Celtic language, sal meaning 'near' and lis meaning 'water', alluding to their habitat.
